Two days is enough to see the very best of Jodhpur if you plan well. This itinerary is the one we hand to guests at Hotel Siddhi Vinayak who arrive on the morning train and leave two evenings later. It balances the big landmarks with the small pleasures — a stepwell café, a market lassi, a sunset view — without feeling rushed.

Everything below is within about 6 km of the hotel, so you spend your time sightseeing rather than commuting.

Day 1, morning: Mehrangarh Fort

Start early at Mehrangarh Fort (about 4 km / 15 minutes from the hotel), ideally by 9:00 AM when it opens and the light is soft. Take the lift up and walk down through the ramparts, exploring the palaces and the excellent museum of arms, paintings and palanquins. Give it two to three hours.

Buy tickets online to skip the queue, and don't miss the views over the indigo old city from the upper terraces — this is the classic Blue City panorama.

Day 1, afternoon: Jaswant Thada & old city

A 10-minute walk from the fort brings you to Jaswant Thada, the serene white-marble royal cenotaph often called the 'Taj Mahal of Marwar'. It's a calm, photogenic spot with lovely fort views.

In the late afternoon, head down to the old city. Explore the restored Toorji Ka Jhalra stepwell, have a coffee at one of the cafés around it, then wander toward the Clock Tower as the markets come alive.

Day 1, evening: Clock Tower & Sardar Market

Spend the evening in Sardar Market around the landmark Clock Tower (Ghanta Ghar), about 3 km from the hotel. This is Jodhpur at its liveliest — spices, textiles, lac bangles and street food. Try a makhaniya lassi and a plate of mirchi vada, then head back to the hotel for dinner and rest.

Day 2, morning: Umaid Bhawan Palace

On day two, visit Umaid Bhawan Palace (about 6 km away), one of the world's largest private residences and now part royal home, part luxury hotel and part museum. The museum opens at 9:00 AM; allow about an hour for the vintage cars, clocks and Art-Deco grandeur.

Day 2, afternoon: a lake or the rock park

After the palace, choose your pace. For nature, head to the Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park below the fort for easy trails and birdlife, or drive out to Kaylana Lake (about 11 km) for a peaceful sunset over the water. Both are gentle, scenic ways to wind down before your departure.

If you're leaving by the evening train, the hotel's location 350 m from Jodhpur Junction means you can sightsee until late and still make your train comfortably.
